Friends of the Library Fundraiser

Photo of LibraryWould you donate an ear(ring) to support the Library? Just one small earring can make a big difference!

During the month of October, the Friends of the Library have partnered with Gold Trader and their Lend an Ear… Lend a Hand! charitable program.

Here’s how it works:
1. Donate and item to the Friends. Drop your item or items off at the library or bring them to Gold Trader.
2. Earn money for yourself and the Friends. Bring your unwanted gold, silver, diamond and platinum items (rings, chains, coins, flatware etc.) to Gold Trader at 1360 Allen Street in Springfield. For every sale, Gold Trader will donate an additional 10% to benefit the Friends of the Library. Pick up a Friends Lend and Ear… Lend a Hand! coupon at the library today! A coupon must accompany your item.
3. If you can’t make it to the store, call Gold Trader at 304-2335 and arrange for “at home” service.

Come join us! We’ve been waiting for you!

Our serious side
We believe the East Longmeadow Public Library is a vital literary, cultural and social center of our community. Our group supports the library’s activities and provides for some of its needs. We educate the public about library issues, promote good-will, and raise much-needed funds to benefit the library and its patrons. If you take the library and these issues seriously, we think you would make a great Friend!

Our fun side
We put smiles on faces! We smile because we meet new people, strengthen friendships and feel a great sense of accomplishment in what we do. Event participants smile for lots of reasons (just ask them!). The library staff smiles because we raise money for items they need and our events help make the library a great place to visit.

Our accomplishments
We’re proud to bring you tried-and-true events as well as new endeavors each year and provide materials and funding for the library. Here are just some of the contributions you can be a part of when you become a Friend:

Adult book discussion series
Annual Spring book and bake sale
Annual  paperback book sale
Author’s book signings
Evenings with authors

Friends writing contest
Art prints
Children’s summer reading program funding
Purchase of  museum passes as a Friends’ perk
And many other materials, supplies and events!

Let us put your dues to work
Any patron of the East Longmeadow Public Library is eligible to become a Friend, whether you live in town or not. When you join, your membership fee helps to enrich and promote the library. Much of our support to the library is made possible through membership fees. Let us put your dues to work!

For your membership, you’ll get:

Discounted cost on Friends events, such as the book discussion series
Early admittance to book sales
Museum Passes
Friends newsletters
Admittance to our monthly Executive Board Meetings
Admittance to our Annual Meeting
Free admittance to “Chocolate Sampling”

Tax deductible membership fees

Pick your level of involvement:
To be a Friend, just complete the enrollment form and pay your membership fee. There’s no other commitment – unless you choose to become actively involved. (We’d love that!) You could provide baked goods for our sale, make research calls to area libraries, help write our newsletter, hang event posters around town, stuff envelopes, sort books for sales, manage an event, brainstorm fundraising ideas, you name it!
