Welcome to the 2019 Teen Summer Reading Program
This program is for tweens and teens ages 12 – 18.

  • Starting Thursday, June 20
  • Receive a scratch ticket when you check out a book or audiobook (limit one scratch ticket per day).  Every ticket is a winner! Prizes include gift cards, movie tickets, laptop stickers, candy, and more.
  • All scratch tickets may be entered into the Grand Prize Drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card.

**Earn additional tickets for the Grand Prize Drawing**

  • Book Review – Submit a short (5 sentences) book review ONLINE for any book you’ve read. Each review automatically earns one prize drawing ticket and there is no limit to the number of book reviews that may be submitted.
  • Teen Library Scavenger HuntTeens may also earn a prize drawing ticket for the Grand Prize by completing a Teen Library Scavenger Hunt. Stop by the Information Desk to pick up a scavenger hunt form.

Teen Events

Teen Creative Writing Workshop (8 weeks)
Starts – Saturday, June 29, 10 – 12 pm
Are you a teen who likes to write sci-fi and fantasy fiction? Are you looking for a writing workshop that is fun and interactive? We’ve got just the thing for you! Starting Saturday, June 29th, the East Longmeadow Public Library will host an 8-week Teen Creative Writing Workshop that centers around sci-fi and fantasy, with a focus on mastering the fundamentals of fiction. Students will be expected to engage in class discussion, participate in literary-themed games, share written work, and provide thoughtful constructive feedback.  This workshop will take place on Saturday, June 29, July 13, July 20, July 27, August 10, August 17, August 24 & August 31.

Who do you love? Who would you love? How do you get along with others? Is there a sun sign that’s perfect for you? Come to an entertaining and educational workshop on understanding your own personal astrology with a focus on the moon, Venus and Mars. You can bring your own chart with you if you like (we like the free ones at astro.com), but if you don’t have one, we can still provide needed information. An ideal class for an astrology enthusiast or beginning student. Please register ONLINE.

Design & Create Your Own Mandala
Learn how to graphically symbolize the universe by designing your own mandala.
The mandala appears in all aspects of life: the celestial circles we call earth, sun, and moon, as well as conceptual circles of friends, family, and community. Please register ONLINE.

Cartooning with Michael Cady 
Learn tricks and tips of the cartoon world; how to create characters and how to design and draw cartoons. It’s all about having fun and creating some really cool cartoons! Sketchbook and pencils included! Please register ONLINE.

Death Star Escape – A Star Wars Themed Escape Room
An escape room is a physical game in which players work together to solve a series of puzzles using clues, hints, and strategy to complete the objectives at hand within a time limit. Maple Meteorite Candy Making
Make an out of this world candy with 3 simple ingredients.  Chef Tracy Carter will show us how to create a light and airy honeycomb candy with a little sprinkle of salt to create that perfect balance of salt and sweet. Please register ONLINE.
