The East Longmeadow Public Library is a very active center of information, cultural activities, recreation, and learning. With the amount of activity in the Library, rules have been established regarding cell phone use to maintain an atmosphere in which all patrons can enjoy a place for selecting materials, reading, researching, studying, writing, and attending library programs or community meetings. These regulations exist to promote the use and enjoyment of the resources and services of the Library.

We understand that cell phones are a vital component of communication and information gathering. We ask Library patrons to respect the rights of others by observing the following:

  • Library patrons should use either the silent signal function or vibrate function as the alert for incoming calls. Patrons who do not have the silent signal function or the vibrate function should turn the audible signal to the lowest volume.
  • Library patrons should limit phone calls to brief, quiet conversations so others will not be disturbed.
  • Library patrons should try to make all calls from the vestibules or use cell phones
    outside the building.

Library patrons who repeatedly disturb others with their cell phone use may be asked to leave the library.

The Cell Phone Use Policy is subject to review and amendment by the Board of Library
Trustees.

Approved by the Board of Library Trustees, January, 2005
Amended by the Board of Library Trustees, July, 2013, January 2021
Amended by the Board of Library Trustees, May, 2023
